On the 6th of July 1964, Malawi attained independence from colonial rule. This year, to mark the 52nd celebration of Malawi’s independence, through a series of events that will take place in Washington DC between the 2nd and the 3rd of July 2016, Malawi Washington Association (MWA) and Malawi Community USA (MACOUSA), invite you to a unique celebration of the people, the music and the culture of Malawi.
The celebrations will kick off with a panel discussion on a select list of topical issues affecting Malawians at home and in the diaspora; which will be followed by a music concert and dance featuring Louis Chikuni, who is one of the early pioneers of Hip-Hop Music in Malawi, Malawi’s celebrated Afro-Soul Jazz Sensation Patience Namadingo, the dynamic folk music duo Edgar ndi Davis and the award winning 85-year-old folk music legend Giddes Chalamanda; and to wrap it all up is an exquisite family picnic for you and your friends and family to enjoy.
